Finding Cool Subdwarfs Using a V − J Reduced Proper-motion Diagram: Stellar Parameters for 91 Candidates

چکیده

We present the results of a search for cool subdwarfs for which our candidates were drawn from a V − J reduced proper-motion diagram constructed by Salim & Gould (2002). Kinematic (U, V, and W) and self-consistent stellar parameters (Teff , log g, [Fe/H], and ξt) are derived for 91 candidate subdwarfs based on high resolution spectra. The observed stars span 3900K < Teff < 6200K and −2.63 < [Fe/H] < 0.25 including only 3 giants (log g < 4.0). Of the sample, 77 stars have MgH lines present in their spectra. With more than 56% of our candidate subdwarfs having [Fe/H]≤ −1.5, we show that the V −J reduced proper-motion diagram readily identifies metal-poor stars. Subject headings: stars: abundances – stars: fundamental parameters – subdwarfs

Classifying Luyten Stars Using An Optical-Infrared Reduced Proper Motion Diagram

We present a V − J reduced proper motion (RPM) diagram for stars in the New Luyten Two-Tenths (NLTT) catalog. In sharp contrast to the RPM diagram based on the original NLTT data, this optical-infrared RPM diagram shows distinct tracks for white dwarfs, subdwarfs, and main-sequence stars. It thereby permits the identification of white-dwarf and subdwarf candidates that have a high probability o...

A Search for Cool Subdwarfs: Stellar Parameters for 134 Candidates

The results of a search for cool subdwarfs are presented. Kinematic (U, V, and W) and stellar parameters (Teff , log g, [Fe/H], and ξt) are derived for 134 candidate subdwarfs based on high resolution spectra. The observed stars span 4200K < Teff < 6400K and −2.70 < [Fe/H] < 0.25 including only 8 giants (log g < 4.0). Of the sample, 100 stars have MgH bands present in their spectra. The targets...

Spitzer Studies of Ultracool Subdwarfs : Metal - poor Late - type M , L and T

Recent discoveries from red optical proper motion and wide-field near-infrared surveys have uncovered a new population of ultracool subdwarfs, metal-poor stars and brown dwarfs extending into the late-type M, L and possibly T spectral classes. These objects are among the first low-mass stars and brown dwarfs formed in the Galaxy, and are valuable tracers of metallicity effects in low-temperatur...

M-Subdwarfs: Spectroscopic Classification and the Metallicity Scale

We present a spectroscopic classification system for M-dwarfs and M-subdwarfs based on quantitative measures of TiO and CaH features in the region λλ6200−7400Å. Our sample of cool stars covers the range from solar metallicity stars to the most extreme subdwarfs known. Using synthetic spectra computed by Allard and Hauschildt (1995), we derive metallicities for the stars. Stars are classified as...
